Useful information about your community pharmacist

Some useful information to consider before contacting your GP about the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service and access to medicines that can be bought over the counter.

Community Pharmacy Consultation Service

Your Community Pharmacist is a highly trained healthcare professional who can provide expert, confidential advice on common illnesses and effective over-the-counter medicines to treat them.  Rather than waiting on the telephone for an appointment with a doctor, please seek advice from your local pharmacy first.  Our Care Navigators will offer you an appointment with a local pharmacy for the below conditions instead of an appointment with the GP.

If you are exempt from prescription charges, these treatments will be free. All Pharmacies have a consultation area where you can speak to the pharmacist privately. You don’t need an appointment and many are open during the evenings and weekends
